The popularity of TikTok has also forced other technology companies to change themselves, and they are giving more priority to short videos.


After forcing Instagram, Facebook, and other social media networks to follow suit, TikTok is now working on plans to take on YouTube.


Keep in mind that in September 2021, TikTok said that the number of its users worldwide exceeded one billion.

This is why the company is constantly working on new features, some of which are directly comparable to YouTube.


One such new feature is being worked on by TikTok, under which it will be possible to watch videos in full-screen landscape mode like YouTube on phones.


This feature is being tested on a limited number of users worldwide.


The company confirmed in a statement that users selected to test the feature will see a button on their feed alongside normal videos.


When this button is clicked by users, the video will switch to landscape mode and expand to full screen.


TikTok is known for short vertical videos and avoids making videos in landscape mode.


But after this new feature, landscape videos will be able to be made.

The feature is currently undergoing testing so it is hard to say when it will be available to all users.


Earlier, in 2022, Tik Tok increased the duration of videos from 3 minutes to 10 minutes.


As of 2020, kids and teenagers are spending more time on TikTok than YouTube, and that's why this social media network is being brought up against Google's service.

 Facebook has sued two app developers for click injection fraud, claiming the developers made Google Play apps that installed malware on a user’s phone for the purpose of generating fake clicks on Facebook ads. That fraudulent ad revenue in turn went to the app developers, Hong Kong-based LionMobi and Singapore-based JediMobi.

 Facebook also said LionMobi advertised its malicious apps on Facebook, which is in violation of its policies. The company says its lawsuit is “one of the first of its kind against this practice,” but Google has increasingly taken action against Play Store apps using click injection schemes as well. In October, Google removed more than 30 apps using ad fraud schemes that were reported to the company as part of a BuzzFeed News investigation.

 Facebook says it banned the developers from its ad network and refunded impacted advertisers back in March 2019. Apps with millions of installs from both developers can still be found on Google Play.

YouTube personality Grant Thompson, whose “The King of Random” channel entertained millions with life hacks and experiments, died in a paragliding crash at age 38, according to reports.

 Thompson was killed in the accident Monday evening in Utah, his brother Mark confirmed to TMZ. The Canadian-born social media star was married and had four children, “Entertainment Tonight Canada” noted.

 A statement on The King of Random Instagram announced his death on Tuesday “with great sadness,” and urged fans to perform an act of kindness to honor his legacy.

Thompson’s channel posted a video homage.

Thompson began his channel in 2010 and has amassed more than 2.4 billion views, according to YouTube.

Among his most viral entries was “How To Make LEGO Gummy Candy!” which has attracted more than 34 million views since it was posted in 2015.

Wong (pic) on July 16 posted on Twitter a message he said he’d received from Google warning that hackers supported by unspecified authorities may have been trying to steal his Gmail password and access his data. — Reuters
Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong said that Google Inc warned him about government-backed hacking attempts as the former British colony’s historic protests continue to draw global attention – and China’s ire. 

 The student leader on July 16 posted on Twitter a message he said he’d received from Google warning that hackers supported by unspecified authorities may have been trying to steal his Gmail password and access his data. 

 “There’s a chance this is a false alarm, but we believe we detected government-backed attackers trying to steal your password,” the message read. “This happens to less than 0.1% of all Gmail users.” 

 It’s not unusual for Google to warn Gmail users about possible break-in attempts, which it says it’s been doing since 2012 “out of an abundance of caution”. The Internet giant pulled its search service from mainland China in 2010, citing censorship as well as concerns about potential state-backed hacks into Chinese activists’ accounts. 

Representatives for Google didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment outside of normal US hours. 

 Wong, a former student leader, co-founded the small pro-democracy Demosisto party and rose to prominence as the face of the 2014 Occupy movement that brought parts of Hong Kong to a standstill. 

 After serving a month in jail on charges relating to his involvement with Occupy, Wong left prison last month and said he would join the current protests, which have seen hundreds of thousands of people march against proposed legislation that would allow extraditions to China. 

 He said the “chaos” surrounding the movement, including violent skirmishes between police and protesters, underscored how China – which backs Chief Executive Carrie Lam’s government – was losing hearts and minds in the city. 

 He has since joined calls for Lam to resign and helped rally demonstrators, including at tense June 21 protests outside the city’s police headquarters, where he demanded that police commissioner Stephen Lo come outside and negotiate. 

 He also joined July 7 marchers as they walked through Tsim Sha Tsui, an area popular with Chinese tourists, in an effort to reach mainland visitors who live behind China’s Great Firewall and are largely blocked from reading news of the protests. – Bloomberg

PUBG Mobile v0.13.5 update is here and it brings a tonne of changes, notable among them being a new weapon, HDR mode, ocean-themed outfits for the Season 8 Royale Pass, new display effects, and a lot more. Patch notes for the latest update are now live and it has begun rolling out across the globe. The PUBG Mobile update also introduces a host of UI changes, bugs fixes, and some details about the new events that are set to arrive later this month. Players who update the game before July 22 will get the Parachute Trail 1 and 1,888BP as rewards.

 PUBG Mobile v0.13.5 update is 181MB in size for iOS-powered devices and 158MB on Android. The in-game update notice states that the new version will be rolled out starting July 16. Starting with the new game elements arriving with the v0.13.5 update, a sub-machine gun called PP-19 has been added to the game. It takes 9mm ammo and has an oversized magazine that packs 53 rounds. The PP-19 will be dropped in Erangel and Vikendi maps, and can be attached with all kinds of scopes while the fire rate is similar to that of a UMP.

The update also adds HDR mode in the graphics settings for high-end phones, allowing users to enjoy the game with even better visual details and smoother gameplay experience. TPP (Third Person Perspective) Team Deathmatch has been added to the Room Mode as well and new ratings protection cards have also arrived with the update, shielding players from rating deductions. Notably, the update also brings background download and update feature on iOS, which means players no longer have to keep the game open while game files are being downloaded.

 The patch notes state that PMCO -themed events will be added later this month. A new mission has also been added in the events section where players can unlock the new Alan Walker theme song. As for improvements, UC purchase bonus and rewards have been updated, while the title visual effects have also been upgraded. Season 8 passes, mission cards, and other items have been added to the BP Shop for Prime tier subscribers.

 The new PUBG Mobile update kicks off Season 8 and adds the Season 8 Royale Pass with many upgrades in tow. The entire Season 8 outfit will be made available as soon as players reach the gold tier. The Season 8 Royale Pass, on the other hand, brings new ocean-themed outfits just as a recent leak had predicted, and also adds a new friend request feature that allows players to ask their friends for Elite Pass and Elite Pass Plus.

CANBERRA: Australia’s consumer watchdog has sued Samsung Electronics Co Ltd’s Australian unit for allegedly misleading consumers by promoting water-resistant Galaxy smartphones as suitable to use in swimming pools and the surf.

 The world’s largest smartphone maker did not know or sufficiently test the effects of pool or saltwater exposure on its phones when ads showed them fully submerged, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) lawsuit says.

 The case is the first filed by a major regulator and could result in multi-million dollar fines. It centers on more than 300 advertisements in which Samsung showed its Galaxy phones being used at the bottom of swimming pools and in the ocean.

 “The ACCC alleges Samsung’s advertisements falsely and misleadingly represented Galaxy phones would be suitable for use in, or for exposure to, all types of water … when this was not the case,” ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said in a statement on Thursday.

Samsung said it stood by its advertising, complied with Australian law and would defend the case.

 The South Korean electronics giant has spent heavily on advertising to rebuild public faith in its premium smartphones following the costly recall of its fire-prone Galaxy Note 7 devices in 2016.

 It is due to announce preliminary quarterly earnings on Friday when it is widely expected to flag a profit plunge due to falls in chip prices.

 Hot water

 Samsung’s water resistance claims came under heavy scrutiny as early as 2016 when influential US magazine Consumer Reports said the Galaxy S7 phone — which appears dunked in a fish tank in commercials — had failed an immersion test.

 The company attributed that to a manufacturing defect, affecting a small number of phones, which it soon fixed. But customers online continued reporting problems, forum comments show.

 Some consumers damaged their phones when exposing them to water and Samsung had refused to honor warranty claims, the ACCC said in the lawsuit, though Samsung said it complied with all of its warranty obligations under Australian law.

 The regulator also said Samsung’s advice to some Galaxy model users that the phones were not suitable for beach or pool use suggested the firm considered water could cause damage.

“Samsung showed the Galaxy phones used in situations they shouldn’t be to attract customers,” Sims said. “Samsung’s advertisements, we believe, denied consumers an informed choice and gave Samsung an unfair competitive advantage.”

 The ACCC alleges law breaches occurred in more than 300 advertisements. If proven, each breach after September 1, 2018, can attract a fine of up to A$10 million ($7 million), triple the benefit of the conductor as much as 10 percent of annual turnover.

 Breaches prior to Sept 1, 2018, can attract penalties as high as A$1.1 million. Rival Sony settled a US class action over similar claims for its Xperia smartphone range in 2017, promising refunds where the phones had failed.

In Wizards Unite, users play the role of a new recruit within the Statute of Secrecy Task Force to help solve a mystery. — AFP Relaxnews
LOS ANGELES: The creators of mobile gaming phenomenon Pokemon Go unleashed a new game on June 20 that features Harry Potter and other characters from the wizarding world made famous in best-selling books and blockbuster movies.

 Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was co-developed by Pokemon Go developer Niantic Inc and AT&T Inc's Warner Bros, which owns the rights to develop entertainment based on author J.K. Rowling's popular Harry Potter series.

 Wizards Unite had been scheduled to debut on June 21, but players in the United States found they were able to download it on June 20 afternoon.

 Like Pokemon Go, Wizards Unite uses augmented reality and Google mapping to make it look like characters are appearing in the real world. Players see characters, creatures and other elements overlaid on the landscape that they see through their phone's camera as they move around.

"You see all your favourite characters and artifacts, whether it's the Sorting Hat, or Buckbeak, or whether it's Harry himself or Newt Scamander," said Jonathan Knight, studio head of Warner Bros. Games San Francisco.


There is also a new story that unfolds within the game, Knight said. "There's a crafting game where you're collecting potion ingredients and creating potions and using them to be a better wizard," he said.

 Pokemon Go exploded after its introduction in 2016, sending players into city streets, offices, parks and restaurants to search for colourful animated characters.

 Actress Tiffany Haddish, an avid fan of the Harry Potter books, was given an early look at Wizards Unite. At a launch event held by Warner Bros., Haddish said her favourite part of the game was that it forces people to move around to search for clues and characters. She said she had lost five to 10 pounds when she was walking around playing Pokemon Go.

 "I'm about to be starting playing this like crazy," Haddish said. "Maybe I'll lose 10 to 15 pounds. Who knows?" – Reuters

A meta-analysis of 20 previous studies found that playing video games does not make children more likely to be overweight. — dpa

 It's common knowledge that TV-loving "coach potatoes" are more likely to pack on the pounds, so it makes sense that video gamers would also see the same effects, right? What researchers found may surprise you.

 Video gaming has little effect on weight gain, according to a meta-analysis of 20 previous studies.

 The analysis found only a small association, primarily among adults, but no significant link for children or adolescents. Conducted by researchers in Germany and Austria, it was published in the international journal Social Science & Medicine under the title "Exploring the myth of the chubby gamer..."

 "These results do not corroborate the assumption of a strong link between video gaming and body mass," the researchers write.

 Overall, the analysis found the difference in body mass between video gamers and non-gamers to be less than 1%. The researchers don't know why adult gamers are more prone to weight gain than their younger counterparts.

 "It possibly has to do with the cumulative effects," says lead author Caroline Marker, a scientific assistant at the University of Wuerzburg's Institute for Human-Computer-Media in Germany. 

 Mechanisms leading to weight gain tend to act over extended periods of time, she says, noting that the adults studied have spent more time playing video games over the years than the children and adolescents, many of whom have played intensively for only a short time.


For their analysis, the researchers examined studies of passive video gaming in which the players are sedentary and press buttons. Other studies have shown that active video games, which track players' movements – such as bowling or dancing – on-screen, can help prevent overweight and obesity. A meta-analysis in 2015 found that active video gaming can have health benefits for children and adolescents comparable to those from outdoor activities.

 In 2017, a German study on the motor skills and physical activity of children and adolescents concluded that the gamers among them didn't necessary get less exercise than their non-gaming peers. Overall, however, the country's children and adolescents are getting less exercise, according to the study, which found that physical activity by 4- to 17-year-olds fell by 37% in the last 12 years.

 There are more than 34 million gamers in Germany (population 83 million), says the German games industry association. They play on smartphones, computer tablets, personal computers and game consoles.

 Meanwhile, 59% of German men and 37% of German women are overweight, according to the German Nutrition Society.

 Studies show that TV-loving "coach potatoes" can put on considerable excess poundage. While the new meta-analysis doesn't provide a clear answer as to why this isn't so with passive gamers, the authors offer several possible explanations: For one thing, playing sedentary video games expends more energy than watching television. It's also easier to snack during the latter. What's more, TV commercials can induce viewers to consume high-calorie foods. – dpa

The report states that despite Google’s 'powerful algorithms' it still is unable to protect its users from 'chronic deceit on Google Maps'. — TNS
Hundreds of thousands of fake listings sprout on Google Maps every month, claims a report by Wall Street Journal.

 The Journal further speculates that Google Maps currently hosts about 11 million fake businesses on its platform, which any storefront business can register on without buying an advertisement. 

 As part of its investigation, Journal found that of the 20 plumbers listed in New York City, 13 of them listed false addresses and only two businesses followed Google’s guidelines which states that pushpin listings must be open to customers.

 The report states that the majority of businesses that aren’t actually located where they claim to be include repairmen, electricians, car towing and repair services, lawyers and contractors. 

Journal shares the experience of 67-year-old Nancy Carter in Virginia, who Googled for a local repair service to help fix her garage door. She reportedly found a service on the platform and called the number, only to have a man in an unmarked van appear before her doorstep, do shoddy repair work and charge her twice the amount than she had paid before for the same problem.


When Carter refused to pay the said amount, the repairman left, only to return to her home a few more times to demand for payment. The article claims that “the repairman had hijacked the name of a legitimate business on Google Maps and listed his own phone number”.

 Journal believes that despite Google’s “powerful algorithms” it still is unable to protect its users from “chronic deceit on Google Maps”.

 Google Maps director Ethan Russell was quoted in the article stating, “There is no single source of truth for all businesses in all categories”, adding that more than three million false business listings were removed from the platform last year. 

 Google had also reportedly disabled 150,000 accounts linked to the false listings in 2018, a 50% increase from the previous year.

 The article states that before a business is listed on Maps, Google verifies its existence by mailing postcards, making phone calls, and emailing a numerical code that the business must enter into a Google website.

 However, this system is reportedly easy for scammers to bypass with fake details. A Google spokesperson shared that the company has added new defences to protect high-risk business categories, including water-damage repair and home listings.

 Google in a blogpost says that it has introduced a new way to report suspicious business profiles and has started to apply refined techniques to business categories prone to fraud attempts.

The problem affects the 15in version of the older MacBook Pro. — Reuters
Apple Inc on June 20 recalled some MacBook Pro laptops sold between September 2015 and February 2017 due to a “battery that may overheat and pose a safety risk”. 

 The Cupertino, California-based technology giant said in a statement that it is asking customers to stop using the computers. The problem affects the 15in version of the older MacBook Pro. The company said it will replace the batteries in these models at no charge. 

 “Apple has determined that, in a limited number of older generation 15in MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk,” the company wrote. 


The recall notice marks the second from the company this year. In April, Apple recalled some wall plug adapters for international use that could create a risk of electrical shock. Over the past several years, Apple also announced less critical replacement programmes, such as for batteries and storage drives in the 13in MacBook Pro.

'TikTok' video-sharing app and its Chinese version have been installed more than a billion times as of April. — Bloomberg

Bytedance Ltd, owner of popular video app TikTok, is making its first foray into consumer hardware by developing educational gadgets.

 The Chinese startup intends to release "educational hardware” in future, it said in a statement without elaborating. That initiative comes after the social media goliath acquired patents and hired staffers from smartphone maker Smartisan in January – a move it said at the time was geared toward the education market.

 Bytedance – the world’s largest startup with a valuation of US$75bil (RM314bil) – has made huge strides into online media with TikTok and news service Toutiao. Hardware would complement its exploration of online education, as it taps demand for child-tutoring from affluent households.

 Last year, it rolled out the Gogokid app, offering one-on-one English lessons with American teachers. It’s a burgeoning market: rival VIPKid, backed by Tencent Holdings Ltd and Sequoia China, was valued at over US$3bil (RM12.5bil) in its funding round in April last year.


"The goal of this acquisition is to incorporate the team’s strength to build upon Bytedance’s initiatives in the education space, specifically for upcoming education hardware,” company spokeswoman Kaylene Hong said in the statement.

 Bytedance started out in 2012 as the developer of news aggregator Toutiao but has evolved into an app factory for everything from messaging and streaming to work collaboration. The TikTok video-sharing app and its Chinese version have been installed more than a billion times as of April, making Bytedance one of the few Chinese internet companies to make it big globally. – Bloomberg

Huawei will continue to have access to features developed by companies like WiFi Alliance and SD Association. — AFP
Huawei has been reinstated as a member of the SD Association after it was reported that the tech company was removed from the membership list last week.

 The report prompted concerns that future devices by the company may not be equipped with the microSD card feature.

 In a statement to website Android Authority, a Huawei representative confirmed that the membership was not cancelled, but instead was “temporarily modified to ensure compliance with the US Department of Commerce order”.

 In the same vein, Huawei’s membership with Bluetooth SIG, WiFi Alliance and Jedec has also been restored, meaning future Huawei devices could possibly have access to connectivity and hardware features developed by these companies.


Huawei is currently embroiled in a battle with the United States which put the company under the Entity List, requiring US companies to get the government’s approval before performing business dealings with the tech giant.

 Support for the Chinese company has been pouring in and it can count Malaysia as an ally as prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during a speech at the Future Of Asia conference in Japan, shared that Malaysia could benefit from partnerships with Huawei.

 "Huawei's research is far bigger than Malaysia's capability. We try to make use of their technology as much as possible," he said, as reported by Nikkei Asian Review.

 Dr Mahathir reportedly added that he is not concerned over allegations of Huawei’s espionage activity as the nation is an “open book”.

 Huawei Technologies' founder and chief executive Ren Zhengfei shared that retaliation by Beijing against Apple Inc was unlikely and that he would oppose any such move from China against the iPhone maker.

"That (Chinese retaliation against Apple) will not happen first of all and second of all, if that happens, I'll be the first to protest," Ren said in the interview with Bloomberg.

 He conceded that export curbs from the administration of US president Donald Trump will cut into a two-year lead built by Huawei over its competitors, but added that the company will either ramp up its chip supply or find alternatives to stay ahead in smartphones and 5G. – Reuters

Hutchins pleaded guilty to developing malware to steal banking information. — AP
A British cybersecurity researcher credited with stopping a worldwide computer virus in 2017 has pleaded guilty in Wisconsin federal court to developing malware to steal banking information.

 Marcus Hutchins appeared in court Thursday after he agreed last month to plead guilty to developing a malware called Kronos and conspiring to distribute it from 2012 to 2015.

 Prosecutors dismissed eight more charges in exchange for his plea. Sentencing for Hutchins is set for July 26.

 He faces up 10 years in prison but could receive a more lenient sentence for accepting responsibility.

 Hutchins' arrest in Las Vegas in August 2017 came as a shock because months earlier he was hailed as a hero for finding a "kill switch" to the WannaCry virus that crippled computers worldwide. – AP

WhatsApp is launching a new fact-checking service in India ahead of the country’s upcoming elections. Reuters reports that users can now forward messages to the Checkpoint Tipline, where a team lead by local startup Proto will asses and mark them as either “true,” “false,” “misleading,” or “disputed.” These messages will also be used to create a database to study and understand the spread of misinformation. India’s elections are due to start on April 11th, and final results are expected on May 23rd.

 The Facebook-owned messaging service has come under continuous fire for facilitating the spread of false and misleading information in India, where viral rumors have been linked to almost a dozen deaths. WhatsApp was also accused of facilitating the spread of viral information during last year’s Brazillian election.
THE INITIATIVE WANTS TO ‘STUDY THE MISINFORMATION PHENOMENON AT SCALE’
Reuters reports that WhatsApp’s fact-checking service, which launched on Tuesday, may be experiencing some initial problems. A message reported by the outlet was still awaiting classification two hours later.

The goal of the new initiative, according to Proto’s founders Ritvvij Parrikh and Nasr ul Hadi, is to “study the misinformation phenomenon at scale.” They added that “As more data flows in, we will be able to identify the most susceptible or affected issues, locations, languages, regions, and more.” Economic Times India notes that the startup plans to submit its findings to the International Center for journalists.

 A total of five languages will be supported by Checkpoint Tipline — English, Hindi, Telugu, Bengali and Malayalam — and the service will support misinformation spread in the form of text, videos, and images. Separately, WhatsApp also recently tested adding the ability for users to reverse image search images in an apparent attempt to allow users to verify their authenticity.

 Along with Proto, WhatsApp is also working with Dig Deep Media and Meedan, two organizations that have contributed to similar projects in other countries. Meedan’s Check platform was originally developed to combat misinformation that spread during elections in France and Mexico and is now integrated with WhatsApp’s Business API.

 The Checkpoint Tipline is just one of a range of changes WhatsApp has made to its service to combat the spread of misinformation. The service has also limited the number of times a message can be forwarded to five, and now also applies a label to any forwarded messages.
The encrypted nature of WhatsApp makes it a particularly difficult platform to regulate however, since not even the organization itself can view the messages that are being sent. Facebook recently announced that it has removed 549 Facebook accounts and 138 Pages for coordinated inauthentic behavior in India, but WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption means tracking down similar behavior on the messaging service is much harder.

 Freelancer and entrepreneur, Faizullah Arain has developed Crighter, an app that aims to fight crime by empowering the potential victim to get help swiftly. Not only can a user get in touch with selected contacts whenever he or she feels threatened, but the app also allows one to record the crime and its perpetrator and even determine safe routes for traveling.


Here is how it works: you sign up entering your details as well as those of your close contacts (ideally trustworthy individuals like your parents and guardians). With addictive gameplay and a last-man-standing style of battle, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has rapidly become the world’s most popular mobile game. However, it now faces a ban in one of the world’s largest markets for mobile games, on the basis of inducing psychopathic tendencies within its players.

 To say that India has taken a hardline stance on the game would be an understatement; there have been at least 16 arrests of people who decided to ignore the ban and continued in pursuit of “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner”, and a fed up 11-year old boy even took the game maker Tencent Holdings Ltd. to court for encouraging violence and cyber-bullying.


The nature of the game might be hugely entertaining for fans, but the National Child Rights Commission (NCPCR) was understandably horrified. It ultimately decided to recommend banning the game. According to the Navbharat Times, “There are dangerous consequences to this game. Many children have lost their mental balance.”

 That is not a far-fetched thing to say, as the story of a boy who decided to jump to death off a building like PUBG characters goes to show. While the paranoia that Indian traditionalists harbor with respect to violent video games might not be entirely justified, the influence that PUBG has managed to amass among the youth of the nation is undeniable, and that is always a red flag.

While there is a grand total of half a billion potential users in the nation, it is still relatively new to the world of gaming. This explains the disturbing absence of regulatory measures that can be found in countries such as China, where Tencent currently bans under-13 children from playing PUBG and requires all players to register with their real names.

 While there is no hint of any official gaming regulation to be passed, the backlash that PUBG has faced in India indicates that the nation is either going to crack down on gaming altogether or take the smart step of making gaming a more responsible endeavor.

PUBG Mobile, the fps game that has taken on the gaming industry with a storm has been under scrutiny for a while for violence and causing physiological issues amongst kids. The game basically contains violence where the player needs to survive by killing all opponents. The game can be played for hours together and needs a person to keep buying optional arms and ammunition if needed apart from requiring a high-end smartphone. Many news reports have surfaced where players are reportedly ending up with violent behavior in order to pursue the game.

 In a new twist, 10 people were arrested in Gujarat's Rajkot city in the last two days for allegedly playing the PUBG Mobile game on their mobile phones despite the police banning it, officials said. The arrests included six college students. Earlier, post the ban on both PUBG and Battle Royale in January, the Gujarat police had arrested 10 college students playing Battle Royale. Police Commissioner Manoj Agrawal on March 6 issued a notification banning the online games PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) and 'Momo Challenge' in the city. Police stations were asked to implement the ban and arrest those who were still playing these games, Rajkot taluka police inspector V S Vanzara said, reported PTI.

 "On Tuesday, our teams arrested six college students playing PUBG game on their mobile phones on Kalavad Road and in Jagannath Chowk area," he said. The same day, Gandhigram police arrested a 25-year-old private firm employee for playing the game on his phone, a release from the police control room said. On Wednesday, three people were arrested by Rajkot police's special operations group while playing the game on their phones in different areas of the city, another official release said.

 All the 10 were booked under Indian Penal Code Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and later granted bail at the police stations concerned, the police said.

As per the police commissioner's notification, the ban was necessary as these games were leading to violent behavior among children and youth. The games were adversely affecting the studies and the overall behaviour, conduct and language of children, the notification said.

 Ahmedabad Police Commissioner A K Singh also issued a notification on Wednesday banning both the games in the city, citing similar reasons.  

 PUBG Mobile released a statement earlier today which states that the game is meant for entertainment purposes only and is supposed to be played responsibly. Though the addiction and its side effects is a concern to the company, they are working on introducing a healthy gameplay system in India to promote balanced, responsible gaming, including limiting play time for under-aged players.

 “PUBG MOBILE is a game. It is meant merely for entertainment and should be enjoyed in a healthy and responsible manner. In consonance with our endeavor to continue promoting responsible gaming experience, we are working on the introduction of a healthy gameplay system in India to promote balanced, responsible gaming, including limiting play time for under-aged players. We were thus surprised to learn that local authorities in a few cities have decided to impose a ban on playing our game. We are working to understand the legal basis of such bans, and hope we can have a constructive dialogue with relevant authorities to explain our objectives and that they withdraw the prohibition. To PUBG MOBILE players, we want to assure you that we are on your side and we will try our best to find a reasonable solution,” said PUBG Mobile in a statement released to the media.


PUBG Mobile is a first person shooter game and does not have a limitation on its play time, which is a major concern, especially for under-aged players such as school and college students. The ban on the said games was issued by the authorities after claiming that the violent games were causing adverse behavioural change amongst its players. And as for the younger players, the games are a concern for affecting their academics.

Windows 10 users running Insider Preview build 18356 (19H1) now have the ability to mirror their Android phone screens on desktop. — Microsoft
Some users in the Windows Insider Programme now have the ability to mirror their Android phone screen on their desktop via the Your Phone app. 

 The feature requires that the PC has support for Bluetooth with Low energy Peripheral mode in order to connect to phones, more details on how to check if a PC supports this feature can be found on this Microsoft community forum post. 


The screen mirroring feature is only available to Android phones running Android 7.0 or newer, but only the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S9 and S9+ can be used during the testing period. 

 According to the Microsoft blog post, the feature is gradually rolling out to Insiders that are on Insider Preview build 18356 (19H1). Users running Windows 10 builds 1803 or newer will receive the feature at a later time.
